I am a single mum with 4 wonderful children, enthusiastic, positive and I’m told I’m very kind-hearted – I wanted to prove to myself and my children that if you want something you should go for it no matter how hard it can be at times.
I am the key founder of the crazy idea that I could develop an independent gymnastic club!
I started gymnastics myself when I was 7 years old at a local Scunthorpe Club working out of a sports hall. I moved to a more established club from 9 years of age. I was okay at gymnastics, but my passion for coaching far outweighed training myself.
I fell in love with coaching and from the age of 14 I couldn’t get enough, my love for helping young kids and making a difference to someone just grew and I must have volunteered possibly 20 hours a week when I was 17 and holding down a full-time job.
I had my own squad group that reached regional levels, but as time moves on so does family, I left the gym to have my children. I still hadn’t lost the passion and when my own child wanted to be a gymnast the passion was reignited.
I went back to my old gym with my daughter – it just wasn’t the same, I made contacts with the local leisure centre and I haven’t looked back. I developed a committee to help fundraise etc., I also started a satellite club in a local senior school and then the crazy idea came that “maybe I could just open my own place”
On June 21st 2016, with the help of my committee to hold my hand and keep my feet on the floor Allegro Gymnastic Academy was born! When I stood in the empty unit – I wanted to have the building next door, but my sensible committee said no at the time- but now look!
The last 3 and half years have been amazing and I have dealt with situations and problems that not in my wildest dreams I thought I would ever have to deal with – but I have, and this only has increased my confidence and the amazing feeling that even if I have only helped one kid with their personal problems then having Allegro has helped others far more than just been a sport.
Our Additional needs class- Wow the development of these children and the support from the parent’s words cannot describe how much these children have come on in all of their developmental stages and Allegro has helped them on their journey. It blows my mind how this crazy idea sat at my kitchen table with a cuppa would have helped so many people.
Now I want that next crazy step of making what I said over 3 years ago to come true- another unit!
